Remember the logo of the disastrous United Fruit Company: a rifle and the word Bananas. The United is that famous US banana production company that combines the words banana export monoculture and extreme violence. Its field of action, Central America and Colombia.
It founded there in the blood of the agricultural workers - as in 1928 in Colombia where more than 1000 trade unionists were massacred - banana Republics under the orders of this bloody capitalism.
The association violence and bananas also concerns the French Caribbean, Guadeloupe and Martinique. Here the violence is manifested by the use by Paris and the big banana planters of one of the most dangerous pesticides from 1972 to 1993: Chlordecone. A pesticide banned in the United States because extremely carcinogenic (among others).
A Fruit a Gun is an extract from a series of photographs in which the artist deploys his poetics/politics.
