J’ai traversé l’océan #1 (I crossed the ocean), performed in 2019 at the Centre (Cotonou, Benin) return on the deportation of the Africans to the American plantation world. The installation Tout doit diparaître ! (2001, up to 100 000 blue plastic bags) had already said it.
In Cotonou, an African-Americain (I also have origins of engaged Asian andEuropean) just whispered in the ears of the Beninese this sentence : “I crossed the ocean”. I appear wearing a mask, the mask of no return (covering my body from the shoulders to the feet) made of strips of blue plastic bags, a material refering to commodification. The blue of the sea carved-slashed by the door of no return (in the city of Ouïda, former slace port where I went).

A lot of emotion in the public, no guilt: I return a sharing of intimicy. The mask already says it, indeed, it refers as much to the Caribbean carnivals (the mask with strips, spiritual and political mask) as the Beninese Zangbeto or the Caleta.
